We’re going on a bear hunt

Crafts and activities to match the classic story.

To begin you may like to watch this You Tube Clip of the author himself Michael Rosen reading the story https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gyI6ykDwds

Craft

Make some bear ears

Create your own small world using different materials for each of the scenes in the book that the family explores.

Use any figurines you have and re create the story.

The grass- trim paper to look like long wavy grass.

The river- fill a thin tray with water

The mud-make some edible mud or just use dirt in a small tray

The forest- use cardboard and coloured paper to make some trees. You could also collect sticks and add some coloured paper or leaves on top.

The snowstorm- make some cloud dough

The cave- use a recycled cardboard box

Make some bear toast

Play

Build your own obstacle course- remember

"you can't go over it, can't go under it"

One person hides a toy bear around the house and everyone else has a go at finding it. Maybe you could also draw a map to find the hidden bear.

Pin the nose on the bear

Create a pillow mountain and have baby try to climb over it.

Build your own bear cave eg: cubby house

Play follow the leader- run, jump, crawl

Trace your hands with chalk and pretend these are bear prints. Have someone follow the trail. You could also use these bear prints as cut outs and sprinkle flour inside to create some foot prints.

Make some binoculars by taping to cardboard rolls together, add some string so they can hang around your neck. Go searching and see what you can find.
