Ice Block Play Time
Summer days are here and what better way to play during those hot summer days than with some ice blocks.
These are a few of my favourite ways to play with ice.
*Spoiler Alert you will need to prepare these ahead of time.
- Fill an ice container with water and add a few drops of food colouring to each seperate compartment. Once these ice blocks are frozen add them to a bucket of water.
Have your little one attempt to scoop up each of the ice blocks before they melt.
- Fill an old ice cream container with water and freeze.
Once it is frozen this becomes your canvas and you can use paint to draw your own designs on to the ice.
This is also a great way to use use water colour paints as a few strokes of the brush on the ice will be enough to get the paint working- no extra water containers required.
- Fill a large container with water and place some plastic toys inside. The challenge is once it is all frozen to try and break them free using hammers, rolling pins and other objects you can hit ice with.
*Hot tip for this one*
Half fill the container.
Pick some toys that can stand on their own- place the container in the freezer FIRST and then place the toys that can stand up on their own.
Next you have two options
1: Freeze the half fill container + toy and then add some more water and freeze again (this may take some time/ requires remembering that you started such a project.
or
2: Half fill the container place the toy inside and hold it still while pouring the rest of the water in.
- Fill an ice block container and make some mini ice blocks. Fill a container with water and colour it blue. Use these ice blocks as icebergs and create an arctic environment for small world play.
Obviously there are so many more things we can do with ice blocks in play however I think these are some of the best and most simple ways to play for all ages.
